In the fiscal 2017/2018, Annual Report GMO
mainly focused on enhancing accountability mechanisms in the public and private
institutions by ensuring effectiveness of GBV service delivery, and improving
communication for gender equality achievements and focuses on key realized
achievements vis-a-vis the institutionalization of gender accountability and
service delivery to victims of gender based violence.
Throughout the fiscal year, GMO’s performance
on key activities implemented enunciated through Government pillars like
Transformational Governance, Social Transformation pillar and Economic
Transformation pillar.
1.
Transformational Governance
In line with transformational Governance, GMO
has contributed to strengthening gender accountability in public institutions,
and Fixed based Operators (FBOs), enhancing institutional capacity on gender
accountability, generation of gender data across sectors for evidence based planning
and decision making, enhancing gender responsiveness in laws, policies and
strategies, monitoring compliance with regional and international gender
related commitments and monitoring the effectiveness of GBV prevention and
response mechanisms.

Social Transformation pillar
GMO undertook the development of gender
status in health and energy sectors in the framework of ensuring quality
standards of living for both men and women. In addition, a gender responsive
assessment on VUP and Girinka was conducted.
3.
Economic Transformation pillar
Moreover, in the framework of economic
transformation and in line with the Country’s commitment on financing for
gender equality, an audit on the implementation status of gender budget
statement was conducted. This aimed to measure the levels to which budget
agencies work towards promoting gender equality and fight against gender based
violence.
This report involves key achieved results
such persisting gender gaps where by Institutional development of GMO were
initiated to enabled them serving for gender equality through
Updating public institutions gender data, Stock management, Resource
mobilization and Capacity Building and Training all were address in this report.
Even though, during fiscal year 2017-2018
several activities were performed, a number of challenges were noticed in this
Report, such Limited capacity and gender expertize to inform effective gender
mainstreaming across sectors and programs, Limited collection and use of sex
disaggregated data and Gender neutral accountability mechanisms. But the report
denotes progressive improvements in delivering to gender equality though more
efforts greatly needed.
Gender Monitoring Office was instituted with
the mandate of monitoring and evaluating the implementation of gender
principles and the fight against Gender Based Violence. While contributing to
government orientation of having a society where citizens have equal rights
between men and women and will continue to ensure that gender accountability is
institutionalized at all levels for inclusive and sustainable development.
